ARTEMIS 2 SETBACK ⚠️
NASA's critical wet dress rehearsal for Artemis 2 was terminated at T-5:15 due to liquid hydrogen leak at the tail service mast umbilical. Launch control team worked to safe the SLS rocket and drain tanks. This represents a setback for the mission that will send four astronauts around the Moon for the first time in over 50 years.
SPACEX ORBITAL DATA CENTERS 🛰️
Elon Musk announces SpaceX acquisition of xAI valued at $250B with plans for up to 1 million orbital data center satellites. The vision: harness continuous solar power to address electricity and cooling challenges facing ground-based AI infrastructure. Industry skeptics question technical feasibility and financial motivations ahead of potential SpaceX IPO.
AXIOM MISSION 5 TO ISS 👨🚀
NASA orders fifth private astronaut mission from Axiom Space targeting January 2027 launch. The 14-day mission continues commercial space strategy with four-person crew proposal. Mission includes service exchanges with NASA acquiring cold-return sample capability while Axiom purchases station resources.
SOLAR FLARE FACTORY ☀️
Sunspot AR4366 erupts with 18 M-class and 3 X-class flares in 24 hours including X8.3 - strongest of 2026! February 1st flare triggered R3 radio blackouts across eastern Australia and New Zealand. Possible glancing CME impact around February 5th may produce high-latitude auroras as active region rotates Earth-ward.
IMAP MISSION BEGINS 🔭
NASA's Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe starts two-year primary mission mapping heliosphere boundaries. Ten instruments study particle energization and solar wind interactions. Real-time data feeds I-ALiRT system providing space weather observations to protect spacecraft and astronauts.
ESA CAREERS 🎓
European Space Agency opens 2026 Graduate Trainee Programme applications for recent graduates in engineering, science, IT, and business. One-year contracts with possible extension offer tax-exempt salary, travel reimbursement, installation allowances, and comprehensive benefits. Apply at jobs.esa.int - up to 3 applications per candidate!
