FIA–Chicago and the National India Hub organized a demonstration against the targeted killings of Hindus in Bangladesh, as part of coordinated national protests across the United States.
Innocent Hindus are being brutally attacked solely for their religious identity. This is not an isolated incident or a chapter of the past—it is a recurring global pattern. Bangladesh once had nearly 34% religious minorities—Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Jains; today, they account for barely 5%. Where did the remaining 29% vanish in just 75 years? In the past 24 years alone, the world has witnessed over 48,500 terrorist attacks driven by religious hatred. What we are seeing is an ideological war, where extremist religious ideologies fuel violence, persecution, and systematic brutality.
Silence and passiveness only enable genocide. Hindu passiveness in the face of their own genocide should be a matter of grave concern. Doing nothing, or assuming that governments or external forces will step in to protect Hindus, is a dangerous illusion. Depending on others for survival is not protection—it is self-destruction. Hindus must recognize and respond to the existential threats facing their community with urgency and unity.
Comfort today can become catastrophe tomorrow.
There is much more that must be done to stop religious persecution, but raising our collective voice is the first—and most immediate—step. The world must confront the root cause of these atrocities and act decisively before it is too late. The root cause is clear: violent religious ideology.
