Juror's Statement:

Jurying a show is both fun and difficult. It is fun to look through other artists' work, analyze how it was created, and see their ideas come to life. But as a juror, I don't see all that goes into a work of art. I am looking at a snapshot of time. One painting. One idea.

Each painting must stand and speak for itself.

I study each painting, looking for aptitude in the fundamental skills of the basic elements of art, composition, technique, and originality. But each piece is more than paint and paper. Each painting has an idea, a message, and an original view of the world. By approaching each piece on its terms, I decide if the artist successfully and skillfully presents the story they are trying to tell.

The subjects we choose and how we arrange the elemtns of art in our design are personal and come from our experience as a person and an artist. I try to determine the artist's intention by looking for intentional design, color choices, and overall feel.

Of course, some images speak more to one person than others. As a viewer of art, I bring my own experiences to interpret the work. This is the conversation of art!

Artists and viewers are both needed to make an impact.
