South Korea's first deputy director of national security is in Washington for meetings with key figures in U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's transition team.
Upon his arrival on Wednesday, Cho Tae-yong told reporters that the trip was aimed at making sure the South Korea-U.S. alliance remains firm under the incoming administration.
He added that it's an objective fact that the alliance and trade relations are beneficial to both countries, expressing hope that the momentum of bilateral cooperation will continue.
Cho cited President-elect Trump's phone call with President Park Geun-hye last week,... during which Trump made a series of remarks reaffirming the Seoul-Washington alliance.
At the same time,... North Korean and economic issues are expected to top the agenda.
