IPRMENTLAW conducted its second virtual conference on July 26, 2020. The topic under discussion was "Legal Challenges faced by the music industry doing business in India".
Issues discussed:
The conference dealt with some important issues such as:
1) Performing rights– new opportunities and challenges in the post COVID world. The IPRS live streaming tariff scheme was discussed at length.
2) Performers rights– fixed or unfixed/ live or recorded? – The legal experts spoke on this issue and debated the different interpretations surrounding it.
3) Radio royalties– the aftermath of the CRB 2010 order and IPRS vs Aditya Pandey judgement were discussed at length.
4) Online licensing– some commercial insights on deal structuring were shared.
5) Single window licensing– a possibility in the Indian legislative framework?
6) Roadmap for India- the way forward
