On Thursday, February 26, at 12:00 PM (CDT) KSBRC hosted a webinar for a presentation by Daniel Buck about one of the toughest challenges facing schools today: restoring order and respect in the classroom. In the current school climate, teachers are increasingly managing constant classroom disruptions. An often overlooked consequence of these disruptions is the overall impact on student achievement. Mr. Buck will explore the connection between persistent student misbehavior, classroom interruptions, and academic struggles, and explain how inconsistent classroom and schoolwide behavior management and accountability contribute to declining academic performance for all students.
Drawing on his experience as a teacher and an administrator, and research contributor in K–12 education, charter schooling, curriculum reform, and school safety and discipline, Mr. Buck will cut through the jargon to talk about what really works. He will offer practical solutions so that all children benefit when there are clear rules, consistent consequences, and strong support for teachers who hold students accountable.
Panelist: Daniel Buck serves as a research fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), director of the Conservative Education Reform Network (CERN), and an affiliate of AEI’s James Q. Wilson Program in K–12 Education Studies, where his work focuses on K–12 education, charter schooling, curriculum reform, and school safety and discipline. He holds a B.A. in English and Spanish and a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin- Madison. Mr. Buck is the author of What Is Wrong with Our Schools? His work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, National Affairs, National Review, the New York Post, First Things.
