For most paper photos, setting a resolution of 600 DPI is recommended. This higher setting gives you the option to enlarge your photo so you can see that shiny mouthful of braces a larger than ever.

They say you’ve got to spend money to make money right? Same thing applies to scanning your photos. To save lots of time, you need to spend a little time. Organizing your photos by decade or year before scanning can help prevent total chaos later - when they're all uploaded on your computer cluttering your desktop. That includes naming in your photos in a helpful and systematic way. It's a lot easier to organize photos that are named “1991 Grand Canyon vacation” than “image 72.”

Chances are your photos are a bit dusty from sitting in an album or a box in the attic for decades. That's why it's important to wipe off each individual photo as well as your scanners glass after every 50 scans or so. Scanning is an easy process, but it takes time and lots of it. So try scanning more than one photo at a time. Just make sure to leave a bit of space between each photo so your scanner can detect them as two separate images and save them as two different files.
