I wrote this Poem in 1990 after being kicked out of the Orlando Public Library for "Sleeping".
The cops were extremely understanding and didn't want me thrown out, but they had no choice. But they did follow me down to the park, where I was staying (homeless for 4 years, just trying to get my disability after being denied 6 years earlier.
The cops stayed there the whole time while I copied it and asked them to hand this to the Admin of the Library. He read through it, shook my hand, and we walked back up to the library. After about 20 minutes, he came back out shaking his head. "He just doesn't care and you are banned for life."
I went back down into the park, and sat there thinking, okay where next to learn. Living on the Streets, Homeless even respectable ones, are treated like total shit anywhere they go.
I live a total of 8 years on the streets, and I saw things that no person wants to see. Done Things that no one wants to do, especially just to eat to survive.
NO ONE REALLY CHOOSES TO BE HOMELESS!
But can't we all give a Little Hoot and Care?
