In this video, we investigate how the amount of carbon dioxide (CO₂) affects the rate of photosynthesis of an aquatic plant.
By adding baking soda to the water to increase the amount of carbon dioxide and counting the oxygen bubbles produced by the plant, we can observe how the rate of photosynthesis changes. A greater number of bubbles shows that the plant is producing oxygen faster, which means the rate of photosynthesis is higher.
This experiment helps primary science students understand that carbon dioxide is needed for plants to make food, and that changing the amount of carbon dioxide can affect how fast photosynthesis takes place.
The video also highlights important science process skills such as identifying variables, making a fair test, and thinking about how to improve the reliability of results.
