Lumezi Town Council Chairperson Oliver Mwale says the Lumezi District Delimitation Sitting held on Monday, 23rd February 2026 has not yet reached a final consensus.

Mr. Mwale says stakeholders are still waiting for guidance from Paramount Chief Gawa Undi of the Chewa speaking people, who is expected to give direction to the chiefs before they submit their position on the process.
He explains that the royal highnesses initially failed to agree, as they proposed the creation of separate constituencies for the valley and the plateau areas.

Mr. Mwale says although other stakeholders went ahead and made submissions, leading to the outcome that was later published, the Electoral Commission of Zambia was asked to withhold final action until guidance from Gawa Undi is received. He notes that the directive had not yet been submitted by this evening.

He adds that the proposal for a standalone constituency in the valley was intended to address unique challenges affecting the area, which differ from those in the plateau. However, he says the population does not appear to support the proposal.

Mr. Mwale has also confirmed that chiefs did not take part in the meeting that resolved that Lumezi South will comprise Diwa, Kamimba, Kachama, Chibande and Lukusuzi wards, while Lumezi North will include Kazembe, Kapangala, Lumimba, Kaikumbe, Wachitangachi and Chamtowa wards. The arrangement ensures that each constituency draws wards from both the plateau and valley areas.
