Afzal Khan (Urdu: افضل خان), popularly known as Jan Rambo, is a renowned Pakistani film and television actor, comedian, director, producer, and TV host. He rose to fame with his iconic role as a janitor nicknamed Jan Rambo in PTV's hit comedy series Guest House (1991). Inspired by Sylvester Stallone’s character John Rambo, the nickname stuck and became his screen identity, making him one of Pakistan’s most beloved comedians.

Early Life and Family

Afzal Khan is married to Pakistani actress Sahiba Afzal, the daughter of veteran film actress Nisho. The couple has two sons, with their elder son, Ahsan Afzal Khan, making his acting debut in Geo Entertainment’s 2023 Ramadan play Heer Da Hero.

Stage Career

Afzal Khan’s comedy style was influenced by legendary Pakistani actors Rangeela and Munawwar Zarif. He began his career in stage dramas in Islamabad and later acted in PTV plays aired in Islamabad and Peshawar. His early performances laid the foundation for a successful career in television and cinema.

Television Career

Khan’s breakthrough came in 1991 with PTV’s Guest House, where he played the unforgettable character Jan Rambo. The series became an instant hit, and his character gained nationwide popularity. He also appeared in popular drama series like Naagin on Geo Kahani.

Film Career

Following his TV success, Afzal Khan transitioned to Lollywood films, signing his first movie in 1992. He holds the record for signing the highest number of Pakistani films in a single day (26 films) and has appeared in over 150 movies. While primarily known for comedy roles, he also attempted serious films. Khan is celebrated for his exceptional dance skills, credited with revolutionizing synchronized dancing in Pakistani cinema.

Directing Career

In 2014, Afzal Khan ventured into directing with the PTV Home drama Yeh Chahatein, Yeh Ranjishein, featuring himself, his wife Sahiba, and actor Moammar Rana. He later directed the A-Plus TV drama Taqdeer (2018) and Thora Sa Pyar (2021) on SAB TV, a revamped version of Taqdeer.

TV Hosting

Afzal Khan has also hosted several TV shows, including the comedy show CIA (Comedy in Action) on ATV, morning shows on Apna Channel, and the weekend show Rambo, Sahiba Aur Aap on Express TV. He has served as a judge on talent and dance competitions, highlighting his versatility as an entertainer.
