Scuffles broke out near Jericho, on the West Bank, on Tuesday (10/12) as
Israeli soldiers tried to prevent Palestinian protestors from disrupting Jewish settlers working on a Palestinian experimental farm.
The Palestinian Minister for Agriculture, Abdel Jawad Saleh, stood with other protestors in front of a tractor on the disputed Wadi al-Faria farm in Jiftlik. Palestinians have used the 35-hectare (87-acre) farm for many years, for agricultural experimentation and farmer training. The scuffles broke out as Israeli soldiers pulled the protestors away.
In Hebron, Palestinian youths threw stones at Israeli soldiers who encircled Hebron University on Tuesday after the army rejected student demands to end a nine-month closure of the campus.
The youths threw stones at the soldiers, and minor scuffles broke out as the Israeli army barred several hundred university students from entering the campus.
Elsewhere in the city, thousands of right-wing Israelis gathered on Tuesday to celebrate the holiday of Hannukah. In the city's controversial Jewish settlement, they sang, danced, and expressed their support for the settlers.
