Roger McEowen, interviewed by Janet Adkison. Many farm operations in the country are in the flight path of migratory birds which are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA). However common agricultural activities can be caught up in the acts provisions creating serious consequences for producers. Professor McEowen discusses the background on the MBTA and how it impacts farmers and ranchers who inadvertently poison migratory birds by use of pesticides. He also comments on the MBTA prohibiting the taking of migratory game birds by the aid of “baiting”.
Roger McEowen is the Kansas Farm Bureau Professor of Agricultural Law and Taxation at Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas. From RFD-TV Market Day Report, August 28, 2018; uploaded with permission.
