If you can’t hold the bar, it doesn’t matter how strong you are! Trying to improve grip strength can be a losing battle if the grip technique is not correct. Hook grip is often regarded as the strongest grip, but for many people, this grip is either too painful or too difficult- especially if you have smaller fingers.
Two tips to improve hand grip technique.
1) Hold the bar in the palm of the hand. While this may increase the distance of the bar by 1-2 inches… if holding it in your fingers make you drop it anyways, try the palm. A dynamometer test showed the strength in the hand is stronger than the grip in the fingers.
2) Performing a skin lock will tighten the soft tissue proximal to the bar, producing a stronger, more secure grip.
