Risk of Rain 2 on Nintendo Switch 2's backwards compatibility mode.. is it any good?

Описание: UPDATE 6/10: I have updated my impressions in a new video. Below is my initial assessment of the game on Switch 2 after I had played the game for a day.


Short answer: Yes, it's perfectly playable and fun, and capable of hitting the original maximum framerate of 60fps. No, it does not "lock" to 60fps all of the time, as the CPU limited scenarios with lots of enemies on screen can't be remedied via the backwards compatibility layer and GPU horsepower. Specific optimizations would have to be made and released as an enhancement patch, but this hasn't been announced as of uploading. Also it's Gearbox, so.. yeah.

The video's resolution is 1440p, but backwards-compatible software does not exceed its original internal res on NS2 unless it is patched to do so. It's simply fitting the image to my monitor's 1440p resolution, so the game still looks as crusty as it did on NX.

I'm overall not disappointed with the playability, and recommend this port if you have a Nintendo Switch 2. The eShop sale just ended though so RIP. Wish I had this video out sooner, but..

This video took me about the whole day to make, as I had to learn the workflow required with using lossless video for the purpose of utilizing trdrop, the framerate analysis tool used here. My 47 minute lossless OBS recording clocks in at 223GB alone, and I had to use LosslessCut to create segments for trdrop to analyze, which is a very long process. I had to restart early on due to realizing I exported the first analyzed segment as jpegs and not tiffs. Oops!

I did this because I like RoR2 and was curious on how well NS2 could run the NX port. Probably not going to do anything else like this, I just wanted to be the first to showcase the game's performance on NS2.
