Cambria County, PA — Rising costs of candy are spooking retailers and residents in our region.
Gardeners Candies C.E.O., Jim Westover tells me, the problem for the increase in cost, including in chocolate, stems from crop production being roughly two thirds of its normal output.
It's reportedly a result of droughts in other parts of the world where candy ingredients are grown.
“Typically at this time of year, the pricing is not only about thirty five hundred per ton. Now, it’s currently about seventy five hundred a ton. So, essentially just the cocoa price itself has doubled.” Westover says.He says his company is rolling with the punches.
