This new Pennsylvania Turnpike toll road provides an alternate route to the airport, bypassing heavy traffic on the Parkway West. Construction of the 13-mile Southern Beltway cost $900 million and included excavation of over 27-million cubic yards of soil and rock, building 28 bridges with 22 million pounds of structural steel and 2.5 miles of concrete beams, pouring 815,340 square yards of concrete, laying 1,075,200 square yards of asphalt, and planting 179 tons of grass seed.
