Описание: COLUMBIA — Less than a week after she arrived on campus, South Carolina women's basketball freshman Chloe Kitts made her debut for the Gamecocks against Charleston Southern on Sunday.

Kitts, a 6-foot-2 forward from Ovideo, Florida, was a five-star prospect and decided to forgo her senior year of high school to enroll early at South Carolina (10-0). She moved in Tuesday and traveled with the team Thursday to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for the Gamecocks' win over South Dakota State, though she did not see any minutes against the Jackrabbits.

The newcomer's first point came just under the first quarter buzzer against Charleston Southern when she was fouled on an offensive rebound. She made one of her two free throws, then opened the second quarter with a fastbreak layup for her first points from the field. The Gamecocks routed the Buccaneers 87-23.

Kitts finished with 10 points, tied for the third-most on the team. She also logged seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.


Coach Dawn Staley said the team plans to utilize Kitts as a versatile forward/guard on the perimeter. She compared the freshman's role to that of Laeticia Amihere, though with less ball-handling responsibility.

"She's unafraid," Staley said before the South Dakota State game. "It could be intimidating because it's a lot of information, so we just shrunk her package to just know these three plays, and when in doubt just be a basketball player. Just make a play, good or bad ... make a decision, whether it's good or bad. She fits in quite well, and all of her teammates are really supportive and helping her along the way."
