The Failed Royal Duchy + Bodmin China Clay Gala | 27.7.25

Описание: What was meant to be a spectacular day for steam enthusiasts in Devon & Cornwall turned into a major disappointment (especially for viewers on the west side of the Tamar), as LMS Black 5 No. 45212 sadly failed at Plymouth during The Royal Duchy railtour by Railway Touring Company & West Coast Rail. The iconic locomotive had been eagerly awaited by crowds all along the route, but mechanical issues forced it to be removed from the train. So instead, the supporting diesel (being 47812) had to step in to continue the tour to its final destination vice steam.

I started the day by catching 47812 at Milltown, just outside Lostwithiel, where it was giving its all in return for no mainline steam which included plenty of thrash & clag, but also some nice tones.

But steam did make a little appearance in the video as later to cheer myself up, I visited the Bodmin & Wenford Railway China Clay Gala, where I saw the recently overhauled Class 08 shunter No. 08444 departing from Boscarne Junction & GWR Small Prairie No. 5552, barking and whistling up the steep banks.
Both were working the line’s China Clay set.

Finally, I caught the returning Royal Duchy passing through Treesmill, just beyond Par, where again the WCR 47 was still going for it, just like 45212 would’ve done if it hadn’t failed, so it ended up being quite a day of unexpected changes, but still plenty of great railway action!
