Here's a rendition of Allegri's Miserere, as requested by Tarion Marsden.
One of the most well-known and fascinating anecdotes regarding Mozart's genius tells the story of how at the age of fourteen he was able to transcribe this entire piece from memory after only hearing it twice, despite it being banned from being performed outside the Sistine Chapel.
In recent years, the veracity of this anecdote has been called into question and, considering how it was considered unacceptable for a copy of Allegri's Misere to exist at all, no copies of Mozart's transcription survive.
However, the ban was eventually lifted and the music has thus been able to be heard on multiple occasions worldwide. Today, it remains a popular Renaissance piece in no large part due to its historical significance.
