FRANCE'S SCHOOL REVOLT: Students Blockade Paris High Schools, Defy Police Response | Times Now World

Описание: Students and teachers continued demonstrations at several high schools in Paris on Friday, blocking entrances and staging sit-ins to demand improved learning conditions and increased education funding. Protesters used rubbish bins to barricade the entrance to Arago High School, while students formed a human chain outside Helene Boucher High School as police monitored the gathering. Further demonstrations took place at Maurice Ravel High School. Teachers criticised the government's response, with one accusing authorities of relying on police repression rather than addressing students' demands. Teacher Vincent Martin said police had repeatedly intervened to clear school blockades, prompting students at Helene Boucher to move their protest indoors. Their demands include more school nurses, building renovations and improvements to the education system. The demonstrations followed a nationwide strike on Thursday over wages, the cost of living and public service investment. France's Interior Ministry estimated turnout at 575,000 nationwide, including 65,000 in Paris, while the CGT trade union put the figures at nearly 1.6 million and 350,000 respectively. Authorities reported 448 arrests and injuries to 53 police officers, with around 70,000 officers deployed. The student movement began in September over deteriorating school conditions and resource shortages before expanding to other schools and joining wider protests against government policies.
