#FreetoProtest project seeks to create awareness on our right to protest. Article 37 of the constitution provides that every person has the right, peaceably and unarmed to assemble, to demonstrate, to picket and to present a petition to public authorities Article 19 Eastern Africa monitoring of protest have identified police brutality, extrajudicial killings, poor infrastructure, gender-based violence, sexual violence, corruption, and poor governance as some of the reasons why people protest. During the COVID 19 pandemic period, Article 19 has monitored 57 protests, 65 arrests during protests, and 5 people killed while protesting.
