High angle shot of a quaint harbour town. Intertitles suggest that it is a very old fashioned place stuck in time. C/U of a wooden bell tower. M/S of woman walking on rocky ground in front of a primitive house. The woman spreads out pieces of fabric on a rock (her washing?) M/S of a ramshackle house with a man gathering wood outside. C/U of the front of a shanty town style house with broken windows. Man comes and looks out of the window wiping his face. C/U of an elderly woman sitting outside her home carding wool. C/U of her carders as she works. She makes a roll of the carded yarn. "Women folk still believe in being useful, as well as ornamental here" (!) reads an intertitle. L/S of the woman operating a large spinning wheel. C/U of the spindle of the wheel.



"The way to a fisherman's heart" is shown to be a pair of knitted mittens. A salty sea dog type smoking a pipe pulls on a pair of mittens whilst the elderly woman watches. A dog plays with his master. The dog has a large weight attached to its collar for some reason. Shots of chickens with some sort of stick attached to their backs to keep them at home. Presumably this is to stop them getting through gaps in the fence. C/U of a young boy and a goat. The goat has some kind of wooden collar on which the boy holds on to. The goat nuzzles into the boy, licking his neck. C/U of the boy who grabs the goat's beard and tries to feed him something. A woman sits on a wooden verandah rocking a baby in a wooden cot. She sews while she rocks it with her foot. C/U of the woman and then of her body. The woman holds the baby's hands and jiggles them. M/S of a rickety old boat with a family rowing it, they seem to have been collecting wood.
