Beyond the Height-of-Land E.22 - Heavy Wind Danger | 25 Days Camping in the Northern Manitoba Wild:

Camping on Arctic Tundra, we are in Polar Bear country in Northern Manitoba. Ted baird and I find a Caribou migration path behind our wild camping site, a true sign of real off-grid, remote wilderness. We soon portage down from our campsite and make breakfast on the camping stove and then load our outdoor gear into the canoes. Not long after we solo rapids, paddling through some intense whitewater on this Canada outdoor survival trip on Northern Manitoba's Seal River. Many more wilderness techniques are used on this adventure too. Soon, bad weather and heavy winds create wilderness danger. Ted Baird and I attempt paddling with kayak paddles but need to turn back to find safety in the lee of an island as large whitecaps threaten to bash our canoes against the rocks in a wide portion of the Seal River. We're windbound and cant travel so we decide to make camp on the tundra. I show you the best way to securely set up a tent in heavy winds as Ted cuts firewood with our folding saw and lights a campfire to boil water and rehydrate our dehydrated food for dinner. Before climbing into the tent and into our sleeping bags, a Ptarmigan visits our campsite. With any luck, the winds would break the following day and we'd make it to the Hudson Bay coast where there are many Polar Bears.
