Описание: Me and my daughter went walking the Carneddau range in July 2018. We started from Ogwen Cottage at the head of Nant Ffrancon by Llyn Ogwen. The ascent up Pen Yr Ole Wen started at Pont Pen-y-Benglog and then we went on to Carnedd Dafydd and Carnedd Llywelyn. The ascent is very rocky and steep and requires scrambling or climbing in certain parts. Once the height has been gained, it is steady walking thereon. We came back down an unconventional route (not recommended) above Aber Falls. There were no paths except sheep trails and the terrain was difficult. However, we saw the head-waters above Aber Falls which were beautiful and wildlife such as herons and a heard of Shetland ponies. The whole hike took 8 hours which was about 2 hours longer than if we had stuck to the main path - we live and learn! The whole hike is about 14-15 kilometres which is about 9 miles, so it is a pretty long hike over mountainous terrain and should not be started unless you are ready for a long day and are reasonably fit!
