Bewitched (TV Theme) - 1965 Jazz Swing feat. Irene Reid with Oliver Nelson [RESTORED in DYNA-STEREO]

Описание: As the TV Show "Bewitched" appeared on ABC-TV in 1965, the theme song was a very popular tune - composed by the hit songwriting team of Howard Greenfield and Jack Keller (who also wrote a new "Hazel" TV theme around this time as well).

The Verve-released recording heard in this video - was one of the first (in1965) where the lyrics of the Bewitched Theme Song are heard.

In this mono - to - stereo re-engineering example, this video features Irene Reid, who was a jazz singer who toured and recorded with Count Basie’s band and appeared on Broadway in “The Wiz”, accompanied by the Orchestra conducted and musically arranged by Oliver Nelson.

Of note, the original recording (in mono) was recorded at the enduring Van Gelder Studios, stealthily located in Englewood Cliffs, NJ - not far from my place of employment - and this recording was engineered by the famous engineer Rudy Van Gelder. This is an important note because the original quality of the mono recording makes a MAJOR difference in the quality of the stereo re-engineering - so this video is also a personal celebration of Rudy Van Gelder's original engineering work - with a big band and vocalist - that created music stems so cleanly from the album, it was amazing to work with that the result might make you think I had access to the master tapes.

Irene Reid was a jazz vocalist whose style was heavily laced with elements of gospel and the blues, however, Ms. Reid never achieved as much success as contemporaries like Dinah Washington and Esther Phillips who took a similar approach.

She joined the Basie band in 1961 and stayed for a year, after which she formed her own small group, Irene Reid and Company, and recorded two big-band albums for Verve, one of the leading jazz labels of the period.
