15 But if the unbeliever wants a divorce, let it take place. In these circumstances the brother or sister is not bound. God has called you in peace.
In response to Jer, a commenter, I looked up the word translated as "depart" in KJV in Greek, and it is CHORIZO. See https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/...
I then Asked AI "is there a word in ancient greek that means a legal divorce?"
The AI Answer was clear: "Chōrizō (χωρίζω): Commonly used for "separation" and legally, in the Greco-Roman context, this was equivalent to divorce when performed with the intent to end the marriage."
The words of Paul in 1 Corinthians 7:15 are clear that the word CHORIZO means divorce because Paul says now the persons are no longer "bound."
Hence, the New English Translation is superior to the KJV, and renders the verse correctly as: "5 But if the unbeliever wants a divorce, let it take place. In these circumstances the brother or sister is not bound. God has called you in peace." See https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/...
Thus Paul has violated the principle that a married couple should not be SEPARATED legally AT ALL where they are no longer "bound" (as Paul clearly says - "bondage" in KJV) unless there is SEXUAL IMMORALITY.
Whether adultery does not happen or happens in the future is irrelevant.
Jesus was clear in Matthew 19:4-6:
--------- He answered, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator made them male and ----------female, 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be united -----------with his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. -----------Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
Jesus then only confirms a separation where the bond of marriage is extinguished is only valid if there is [sexual] immorality.
Consequently, Paul impermissibly, and contradictory to both Jesus and YHWH allowed grounds to separate (and not be bound any more to each other) solely on a change in one's belief to include belief in Jesus in some manner.
Dear viewer and reader, fellow Christian -- "Who will you follow? A False prophet who is a ravening wolf in sheep's clothing - Matt 7;15 -- namely Paul?
Or Jesus Christ?
Blessings Doug
