Описание: I've been working at building my acting reel and have been filming scenes with actor friends and colleagues for the past year. I selected scenes from American classics that would require me to really deliver something solid and authentic in each piece. My focus was really on getting together minute-long clips for Actor's Access (formerly the Breakdown Services,) which is where the vast majority of professional TV and Film casting work is done - and some commercial auditions and other things. I have done that and now have minute long pieces online where casting directors can see my work. Goal achieved. I have felt like it would be of benefit to do - to edit and share - FULL versions of each of the scenes I have chosen to work on and collaborated on with my "teams". In choosing these scenes, I wanted to find pieces that showed off my chops as an actor - that would be different enough from one another to show some versatility - and that would give me the chance to work with some talent who I respect, admire, and enjoy for lots of reasons. This year of collaboration has been most prominently with my now dear friend and creative partner, Melanie Simmons, with whom I have developed a fantastic working vocabulary, methodology, and creative chemistry. So much of the great work I was able to achieve has been because Melanie is simply awesome. I consider myself so lucky to have connected with her in all of the ways that I have, and I am constantly and consistently impressed by her talent, skill, instincts, and wisdom. My scene partners have included: Melanie Simmons as Maggie in Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, Mark Phialas as Jim Casy in Grapes of Wrath, Linda Clarke as Ma Joad - also in Grapes of Wrath, and Randy Jordan as Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman. Each of them brought depth and gravitas and craft to the work and beauty and believability to their own nuanced performances. Each of them helped me to be better as an actor - and as a character. While I "know" that working on existing pieces is a "no-no" for all sorts of reasons, I chose to break the rules and go with these initial examples of my work with the knowledge that most people would never even see my acting reel - and with the knowledge that I could add to my reel and build a body of work samples over time that really reflect the depth and breadth of my capacity as an actor on-screen. I hope to add to these first four scenes, a set of original pieces - short film scenes - and genre-specific character bits. Building a reel that includes not just what I "have done", but also what I "could do" and "would enjoy doing" is a huge part of what I'm looking to achieve. Having lost 40-50 lbs over the past year has changed me and I think having some cinematic representations of those changes was a MUST for me and my brand as an actor. I am also incredibly grateful to friends and neighbors who have loaned me objects, props, rooms, set pieces, paintings, and more - and have contributed to the work at our various shoots in myriad ways - most notably Julie Davis and Brent Flory, with whom I hope to collaborate on even more (original work). Lastly, I am grateful to my wife and family rock, Anna Decker Wilson, who has enabled me to try things, grow, push myself, and who knows how to help me find my best me and draw on it even when it's hard and painful and messy and challenging. Here is the long version of our Grapes of Wrath (day shoot scene) with Jim Casy and Tom Joad. Working with Mark Phialas on this scene really was a treat. Both to revisit a role I loved playing in 1996 but also just the chance to work with Mark on something of substance. This first meeting between these guys often feels casual or simple but there is a lot underneath the surface for both of them - Tom having just left prison for manslaughter and Jim reaching the end of his journey as a preacher. Tom eventually takes to heart the crazy things that Casy has been telling him all along and adopts his good fight as his own after Casy's death. It's the start of many journeys, this scene. I hope you enjoy the work...
