HANGING BY A WIRE is a new documentary out in selected in cinemas in both the US and UK now...

In this interview, documentary filmmaker Mohammed/Mo Ali Naqvi talks about his exploration of the cable car rescue in Northwest Pakistan (Battagram/Battangai) in 2023.

He focuses on how the villagers and local rescuers worked with and sometimes – against the wishes of the authorities to save six schoolboys and two adults who became stranded on a cable car after a wire snapped and left them hanging on a wire some 900 feet (275m) from the ground.

Ali interviews media, the police and army personnel who all had a role to play and what emerges is the bravery and courage local rescuers (his ‘heroes’ he refers to in the interviews) displayed to retrieve the stranded.

All the footage of the eight stranded is from film shot that day and is quite nerve-wracking just to view...

Well worth seeing if you are interested in resilience, courage and the desire to help people who find themselves on the very edge of death and tragedy.

This documentary had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and the filmmakers are working with US charity One Good Act to help those affected in the area and assist with development programmes.
