Sri lankan Fish Bun | Malu Bun | Maalu Bun ~ All You Need
Fish bun or Maalu bun is one off the best Sri lankan street food well known for it spicy and tastiness. Lets see how to make Sri lankan Fish Bun | Malu Bun | Maalu Bun.
Ingredients required for Sri lankan Fish Bun | Malu Bun | Maalu Bun:
• 2 Potatoes
• Yeast
• Sugar
• 750g Flour
• 2 Eggs
• 1 Cup milk
• 2 finely chopped onions
• 425g Tuna fish
• turmeric powder
• Salt
• Chili masala powder
• Pepper
Boil 2 Potatoes for 20 mins, peel the skin and leave it aside.
In a cup full of like warm water
o Add yeast 1 tablespoon
o Add sugar 2 teaspoon
Mix all together and place a lid on top of it for 5 mins for the yeast to activate.
Once the yeast is activated set it aside.
Making the Dough
In a bowl
o Add 750g flour
o Add 4 teaspoon sugar
o Add 2 teaspoon salt
Mix all together
o Pour the activated yeast
o Add 1 egg
Mix all together
o Add 1 cup milk
Mix all together
Make dough.
Separate the dough into small balls, place them in a tray and cover it with a plastic wrap / glad wrap
And leave the bun rolls aside for an hour
Making the filling
Heat up a pan and add 2 tablespoons of oil
Once the oil is heated
o Add 2 teaspoon brown mustard seeds
o Add a hand full of curry leaves
o Add 1 teaspoon minced garlic
Stir all together
o Add 2 finely chopped onions
Stir all together
o Add 425g tuna
Mix all together
o Add 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
o Add 1 teaspoon salt
o Add 1 teaspoon chilli masala powder
o Add 1 teaspoon pepper
Stir and mix all together, make sure all spices are mixed well
Set the stuffing aside
Making the Bun
After an hour, the rolled dough will look a bit puffed
Roll the dough and make it flat
Place it on a breadboard
Add the cooked stuffing in the middle
As shown in the video cover the bun with the dough
Once all the dough is done spread some egg mixture coat on top of it
Preheat the oven 250 c for 5 minutes and place the buns in the oven from 30 minutes
And now the bun is ready
Best served with afternoon tea, when it's mild-warm
