Ukraine ramps up drone strikes: Shuts Moscow airports, targets Russian oil

Ukraine has intensified its drone campaign against Russia, disrupting air travel, striking key energy sites and widening the scope of its attacks.
For a second consecutive day, Moscow’s airports were forced to suspend operations, recalling the major aviation disruption seen earlier this summer. Outside the capital, a drone attack hit a residential apartment building in Russia’s Tver region, with local authorities reporting seven people injured, including a child.
Ukraine also targeted Russia’s energy sector. In Yaroslavl, drones struck one of the country’s largest oil refineries, which processes around 15 million tonnes of oil a year and produces fuel for vehicles and aircraft. For the first time, Ukrainian drones also hit a Russian oil facility in the Caspian Sea, striking a Lukoil offshore platform and reportedly halting production at more than 20 wells.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said last week that Moscow would expand strikes on ports and shipping in response, and seek to cut Ukraine off from the sea.
