H. Leon Pachter, MD, chair of NYU Langone's Department of Surgery, describes how his family came to the United States when he was six years old, and how he was the first person in his family to go to college. As a medical student, he realized that as a surgeon, he could fix something immediately, and it drew him to the field.
Dr. Pachter has a special interest in treating adrenal tumors using minimally invasive surgery. "What makes a great day for me is coming out of the operating room, and knowing that I have contributed greatly to curing a patient," he says.
