How to sanitize and clean hairbrushes

Hairbrushes are as dirty as sponges and carpets — they accumulate so much dirt that most people have no idea.

In addition to hair, oil, dust, dead skin, and even mites can get trapped. If possible, clean them every week. If you don’t have time, clean at least once a month.

How to sanitize and clean hairbrushes:

To start, remove all the hair stuck in the brush. Use your fingers; if there’s a lot, you can use a paintbrush or the handle of a fine-tooth comb. Place the handle under the trapped hair and make upward movements through the brush. If it gets too hard, help by cutting with scissors.

Mix shampoo or dish detergent or liquid soap with warm water (you may also add a little baking soda if you wish). Prepare the mixture in a small container. You will use an old toothbrush. Place the toothbrush in this solution. Then gently scrub the hairbrush, going between the bristles. Also scrub the bristles themselves, as they will come into contact with your hair again later.

If the brush has a wooden handle, be careful not to get it wet, as the wood can rot! To finish, rinse the brush under running water to remove all the soap. Leave it under the water until it starts to run clear. If needed, use a paper towel to dry it faster. Then let it air dry.
