Dioscorea polystachya is a wild air potato that has fed imaginations—and bellies—across cultures. Producer Carla Seidl finds and samples some growing in her neighborhood in Western North Carolina and wants to find out more. Created in 2015, this audio piece touches on Cherokee and Chinese traditions. It features the voices of "philosoforager"/wild foods educator Alan Muskat, herbalist and storyteller Doug Elliott, instrument builder and puppeteer Clyde Hollifield, and Chinese history professor Dr. Dongping Han. It was mixed with the magical music of Andreas Vollenweider (Caverna Magica).
