SSL Pure Drive Octo vs Neve 1073 | Mic Preamp Shootout and Review

Описание: There’s no hiding the fact we’re big Neve fans here at Rock Hard but, thanks to the team over at Studiocare, we’re giving the SSL Pure Drive pres a go.

This is the SSL Puredrive Octo, 8 channels of Mic Pres, insert points, multiple drive modes and a built in USB interface too.

We’ve given the Pure Drive pres a shootout against our console’s Neve 1073s, 8 channels of drums, 2 channels of guitar and a channel of bass all passively split between the SSL and Neve pres, straight into Logic using the respective SSL and Neve converters.

For our test we matched the gains as closely as possible and set the SSL to its “Classic” drive setting.

So, in our opinion, there’s not too much between these preamps sonically when using them at lower gains. James commented that both pres are pretty transparent with the Neve giving a little more character to the drums and the SSLs more crispy on the guitars.Of course, the real character of the 1073 comes out when it’s being driven much harder, so keep an eye out for our comparison at higher gains coming soon.For these mixes though, we added very little processing, using only stock Logic plugins and keeping any settings identical across both mixes.
