There are many variations of ball valves, each differing in pressure and flow restrictions. The most commonly used ball valves are Full Port Ball Valves. These types of ball valves have an oversized ball, and the hole within the ball is the same size as the pipe to which the ball valve is connected. This combination allows for better flow because of the little friction loss and unrestricted flow.

Ball valves are available in two standard connection types for copper: female threaded (IPS) or sweat (CxC). They are also available for PEX connections in crimp, clamp, PEX press, ProPEX. The are available for PVC and CPVC with solvent and threaded ends. Push-fit ballvalves are also available for copper, CPVC and PEX.
