It is a fixed monthly amount that is part of an employee's salary package. However, it's important to note that Transport Allowance is taxable under the Income Tax Act.

On the other hand, Allowance for Transport employees is a specific type of allowance provided by employers exclusively for the purpose of commuting. This allowance is meant for employees who are engaged in the operation or maintenance of vehicles used for transportation, such as drivers, conductors, pilots, or any other transport-related roles.Maximun exemption one can claim under Income tax act is lower of : i. ₹10,000 p.m. or 70% of such Allowance.

Transport Allowance is given to all employees to cover their commuting expenses, irrespective of their job role. In contrast, Allowance for Transport employees is granted only to individuals directly involved in transport-related activities.

Transport Allowance, being a part of an employee's salary, is subject to taxation. However, the government provides a tax exemption of up to Rs. 3,200 per month for Transport Allowance to blind or handicapped employees. This exemption is available for all employees, regardless of whether they actually incur transportation expenses or not.
