Kevin Lau’s NAC Orchestra commission is inspired by Richard Strauss’s tone poem Death and Transfiguration. “I gravitated immediately toward it,” he says, “its gripping, transcendent musical narrative resonated powerfully with my own creative sensibilities. At the same time, its central, existential question—what lies beyond death—had begun to occupy my own thoughts with increasing regularity.”

Cette commande de l’Orchestre du CNA à Kevin Lau s’inspire du poème symphonique Mort et transfiguration du compositeur allemand Richard Strauss. « Cette œuvre m’a attiré d’emblée; son récit musical saisissant, transcendant résonne puissamment avec mes propres sensibilités créatrices. En même temps, la question existentielle au cœur de l’œuvre, à savoir ce qui se trouve au-delà de la mort, avait commencé à s’insinuer dans mes propres réflexions, et ce, de plus en plus fréquemment ».
