Last year, I felt the drive to expand my game dialogue expertise beyond asset creation. I wanted to learn how to design the systems that play the dialogue lines in the games I help create—and it got to a point where I couldn’t wait any longer to take action.
The problem was, I couldn't make a dialogue system without a game first. And I didn’t know how to make games. So, I learned how and I made one.
I learned Unreal Engine 5 and Blueprint programming from scratch—just enough to start working toward my true goal: designing a Dialogue System. I wanted to prototype a system that achieved everything I was looking for: subtitles, UI control, spatialized audio, branching, and quest progression through dialogue.
Finally, I’m excited to share the result!
