🇬🇧 The most outstanding feature of the city of Cuenca is its beauty, which arises from the special harmony between nature and urban space, and from its long historical trajectory that has left an important cultural and monumental legacy. On December 6, 1996, Cuenca was declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO, thanks to the magnificent conservation of the original urban landscape as a medieval fortress, its rich civil and religious architecture from the 12th to 18th centuries, and the exceptional fusion of the city with the beautiful natural environment in which it is located.

The Hanging Houses that literally stand out over the gorge of the river Huecar in this Castile – La Mancha destination are sure to grab your attention. But this World Heritage City of cobbled streets and ancient buildings offers much more to the visitor.

It’s worth climbing the hills and winding streets into the centre of this town between the gorges of the Júcar and the Huécar to enjoy the amazing views. Be sure to see the Plaza Mayor, with the arcaded Town Hall and the pretty Cathedral, which was begun in the late 12th century. To get spectacular photos of the city, master your fear of heights and cross the iron footbridge of Puente de San Pablo. At the other end is the Convent of San Pablo, now a Parador.

🇪🇸 El rasgo más destacado de la ciudad de Cuenca es su belleza, que surge de la especial armonía entre naturaleza y espacio urbano, y de su larga trayectoria histórica que ha dejado un importante legado cultural y monumental. El 6 de diciembre de 1996 Cuenca fue declarada por la UNESCO Ciudad Patrimonio dela Humanidad, gracias a la magnífica conservación del paisaje urbano original como fortaleza medieval, su rica arquitectura civil y religiosa de los siglos XII al XVIII, y a la excepcional fusión de la ciudad con el bellísimo entorno natural en el que se enclava.

Seguro que las Casas Colgadas que literalmente sobresalen sobre el desfiladero del río Huecar de este destino de Castilla – La Mancha captan tu atención. Sin embargo, esta Ciudad Patrimonio de la Humanidad de calles empedradas y edificios centenarios ofrece mucho más al visitante.

Merece la pena subir las cuestas y callejuelas que se adentran en esta ciudad situada entre las hoces de los ríos Júcar y Huécar para dejarse sorprender por sus miradores. Entre las paradas imprescindibles está la Plaza Mayor, donde verás los arcos del Ayuntamiento y la bonita Catedral que se comenzó a construir a finales del siglo XII. Para obtener unas fotos espectaculares de la ciudad, hay que perder el vértigo y cruzar la pasarela de hierro del puente de San Pablo. Justo al otro extremo está el Convento de San Pablo, hoy convertido en Parador Nacional.
