Why Are CDs So Popular Again? : The Compact Disc Resurgence of 2025

Описание: There has been a lot of talk lately about how CDs are once again becoming very popular. It does seem that 2025 is indeed a year where the compact disc is going through a major resurgence. Sales numbers are climbing all the time.

But why has the CD suddenly become popular again? In this video, I look at a variety of reasons behind the compact disc resurgence. I am sure that many of these will not come as a surprise to you, but I think some of them will. I know a few of these reasons surprised me!

Of course, any time you see a format from the past return in popularity, one of the first reasons that is usually given is nostalgia. Of course! I don't think anyone would deny that. Gen X'ers like me are always very happy to revisit the glory days of our youth. There is always a comfort to the way things used to be.

But one also has to consider the younger crowd, too. They certainly make up a big percentage of the folks who are getting into CDs. On one hand, it could be because they have grown up in a world where they only knew streaming. For them, the old ways are very intriguing and charming. They were not around the first time CDs were all the rage, so they are getting into them now.

Also, in the video, I mention a brand new CD player that has recently entered the market, that seems to be playing an undeniable role in this CD resurgence. There has been a very positive buzz around this product. Not only does it seem to function very well and give decent results, but the price is also very affordable.

I would argue that CDs never truly went away. Yes, they may not be anywhere near the sales numbers of the 80s and 90s, but honestly, you can still easily find CDs in most major box stores and in many popular retailers. The section of CDs at your local department store may have gotten much smaller in selection, but it never truly went away. People still enjoy the fact that CDs are collectible, they sound great, and they are a very tangible connection to an artist that we greatly admire.

I also mention in the video the problems with streaming, and how this could also be contributing to the return of the compact disc. Really, there are probably a number of factors that feed into this phenomenon!

I have quite a large collection of CDs that I still cherish and listen to frequently. I love the fact that I can play my CDs as many times as I want. I pay one fee to own that CD forever, and I never have to worry about it being removed from cloud storage, or from a streaming site. I want to be in control of my favorite music. I want to know that it is always there for me to listen to any time I want, as much as I want, as repeatedly as I want without fear of it being removed by someone else. I also like that listening to a CD ensures privacy. Nobody can monitor my CD listening habits!
