Located in the Lohsalm valley near Meisburg, the Schneidemühle stands as one of the last remaining water-powered sawmills in Germany.
This film provides a detailed look into the traditional operating technology and labor processes of a bygone era. Sawmill operator Josef Schneider ran the mill commercially until 1968, later dedicating himself to its full restoration. Today, the facility remains in working condition, serving as a living demonstration of historic industrial engineering.
What this film explores: The mechanical heart of the mill begins at the water wheel, which drives a complex gear system on the transmission level. This system effectively transfers power to the vertical sawing frame (gatter), transforming natural energy into the precise movement required for timber production.
