Billionaire Faces Loss of $65M Superyacht Seasense, Ferraris & Real Estate in Explosive Lawsuit!
---
In a dramatic legal saga that echoes the post-2022 wave of seized luxury yachts, one American billionaire now finds himself at the center of an escalating asset grab. But this time, it’s not a sanctioned Russian oligarch—it’s Charles Cohen, a real estate mogul and film distributor from Manhattan, whose prized $65 million superyacht, rare Ferrari collection, and real estate empire are all on the line.
Charles Cohen, a symbol of American business success and luxury living, is facing an aggressive legal battle with Fortress Investment Group, an investment firm partially backed by Abu Dhabi. The conflict traces back to a $535 million loan Fortress issued to Cohen in 2022. That loan was secured against several high-value assets: the Le Méridien Dania Beach hotel in Fort Lauderdale, a Manhattan office tower, and three other real estate holdings. Of that sum, Cohen personally guaranteed $187.2 million, a typical move in their long-standing business relationship.
But Cohen's financial empire appears to be unraveling. As his businesses plunged into insolvency, Fortress began seizing the collateral to recover their funds. After raiding real estate properties in France and confiscating valuable art and wine collections, they now set their sights on Cohen’s luxury lifestyle assets, including 25 rare cars, several Ferraris, and perhaps most dramatically, his beloved superyacht: Seasense.
At the center of the storm is Seasense, a breathtaking 220-foot (67-meter) Benetti-built superyacht valued between $50 million and $65 million. Docked at the Port of Loano in Italy, the yacht is currently frozen by court order and cannot leave port without written judicial consent. Fortress alleges Cohen has attempted to protect these luxury assets by transferring ownership to family members, while Cohen countersues, accusing Fortress of harassment and unethical pursuit of his personal life.
Seasense, internally known as FB275, is more than just a status symbol. Designed in collaboration with Dutch designer Cor D. Rover and Benetti’s Interior Style Department, it’s a floating masterpiece and a personal family project. From its military-inspired lines to its tranquil all-blue color palette, Seasense is a homage to the serenity and power of the ocean.
Inside, the yacht is the epitome of luxury and functionality. Designed to host 12 guests across six cabins, with space for 14 crew members, it spreads over four decks and boasts a total interior volume of 1,175 GT. At the heart of the main deck is the Benetti Beach Club, featuring a 33-by-13-foot pool—the largest ever fitted to a yacht of its size upon delivery. This pool can be converted into a basketball court, highlighting the yacht’s multifunctional, family-focused design.
Additional features include a marine-themed gym and wellness area, indoor/outdoor lounges, a cinema, a private elevator, and even a wood-burning pizza oven on the sundeck. The yacht is powered by twin Caterpillar diesel engines, giving it transatlantic range at a cruising speed of 12 knots, making it ready for global travel.
Fortress claims that Seasense is just the crown jewel of Cohen’s mini-fleet of five yachts, all allegedly under indirect ownership. As the legal fight escalates across multiple countries—including France and Italy—the future of these multimillion-dollar assets hangs in the balance.
While the courts will ultimately decide who wins this high-stakes dispute, one thing is clear: Charles Cohen's luxurious empire, once built on concrete and cinema, is now adrift in legal uncertainty. With millions at stake and some of the world's most exclusive luxury toys frozen in litigation, this is a billionaire drama unlike any other—a real-life tale of yachts, Ferraris, and fortunes under siege.
