The Gumrag dance is a traditional group folk dance of the Mishing tribe of Assam, performed during the spring festival of Ali-Aye-Ligang to honor nature, celebrate the new agricultural cycle, and invoke fertility. Dancers move in circles, often in village courtyards, accompanied by drums, cymbals, and traditional songs (Oi Nitom).
The Mising Youth Festival (MYF) is an annual cultural celebration for the Mising tribe of Assam, India, focused on preserving their heritage, with the upcoming 10th Mising Youth Festival scheduled for January 26-30, 2026, at Kareng Chapori, Dhemaji. This event, often called Mising Sisang Gi:di Si:pi, showcases Mising traditions, music, dance, and crafts, uniting the youth to strengthen their identity, with preparations including erecting traditional posts and constructing tribal houses.
