As defined by the founder of the Yale School of Public Health, C-E.A. Winslow, public health is “the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through the organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private communities, and individuals.”
Public health focuses on the health of entire populations and how we can prevent disease from occurring in the first place. When you're sick, you're likely to see a doctor or nurse. When a population is sick, that's when public health comes in.
