"The Trio in E flat major op. 43 for piano, clarinet, and bassoon is a model work. Singable, catchy melodies, cautious chromaticisms, and a logical harmonic design predominate. Nevertheless, in his trio Kreutzer also repeatedly creates surprises with unexpected tones that actually are already romantic. With his great command of the compositional craft he writes virtuosic music that is not complicated and can also be realized very well instrumentally – an outstanding piece for “Hausmusik” in the best sense of the word."
