Barriers and traps
Barriers: Create a physical or chemical barrier around plants or garden beds using materials like copper tape, diatomaceous earth, or coarse sand, which snails dislike or which can injure them.
Beer traps: Bury a shallow container flush with the soil and fill it with beer. Snails are attracted to the yeast, fall in, and drown.
Moisture traps: Place moist boards or pieces of cardboard in the garden overnight. Snails will hide underneath them and can be collected in the morning.
Slug/snail bait: Use commercially available iron phosphate-based baits, which are safer for pets and wildlife than older, more toxic options, or make your own using fermented bread or yeasty liquid.
Natural predators
Encourage biodiversity: Attract natural predators such as birds, frogs, toads, and ground beetles to your garden to help control snail populations naturally.
Manual removal: Go on "snail hunts" at dusk or dawn, collect the snails by hand, and move them to another area or dispose of them.
