It has been often taught that when a believer sins, the Holy Spirit leaves him and probably returns only after the believer has confessed the sin and sought God's mercy. I may have a challenge with this stance because the number of times a believer makes an error will make the Holy Spirit to keep leaving and returning multiple times within one day. And I don't think this is case.
So, am I saying the Holy Spirit tolerates sin in the believer? Will the Holy Spirit still remain in a place where sin dwells? Quite a number of questions to ask.
