In this video, we take you inside a modern steelmaking production line, tracing the complete process from iron ore to steel billet.
The journey begins with raw iron ore, which is pretreated according to its size and characteristics. Fine iron ore is processed through sintering to form strong and permeable sinter, ensuring smooth and efficient blast furnace operation. At the same time, coking coal is converted into high-strength coke, serving as both fuel and structural support inside the furnace.
Inside the blast furnace, iron-bearing materials, coke, and fluxes are charged in layers. Hot air injected through the tuyeres drives high-temperature reactions, producing molten iron that accumulates at the furnace hearth. The hot metal is then transported to the steelmaking shop.
In the basic oxygen furnace, molten iron and scrap are refined by high-pressure oxygen blowing. Impurities are removed through slag formation, while alloying elements are added to precisely control the chemical composition of the steel.
The refined molten steel is continuously cast into steel billets using a continuous casting machine. After cooling, the billets are reheated and rolled through multiple passes to achieve the required dimensions, before being cut, conveyed, and cooled.
This video showcases not only the steelmaking process itself, but also the importance of system coordination, process stability, and engineering integration.
SMG delivers more than individual equipment—we provide mature, reliable, and sustainable metallurgical turnkey solutions covering the entire steel production chain.
