WASHINGTON DC - U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to address the Senate Foreign Relations committee on the situation in Venezuela.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio appears before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Venezuela. The hearing follows U.S. airstrikes on Caracas and a military operation in early January in which Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured and taken to New York to face federal charges, according to U.S. authorities. Vice President Delcy Rodriguez assumed the interim presidency and has agreed to an oil supply deal with the U.S. government.
The Trump administration has notified Congress that it is taking the first steps to possibly reopen the shuttered U.S. Embassy in Venezuela as it explores restoring relations with the South American country following the U.S. military raid that ousted then-President Nicolás Maduro.
